오니료칸 Oni Ryokan

오래전부터 해당 영상을 제작하기 위해 꾸준히 기획과 구상을 이어왔습니다. 초반부 콘티와 스토리보드는 이미 완성된 상태였으나, 당시 기술적 제약으로 인해 프로젝트를 잠정 중단해야 했습니다. 이후 AI 영상 기술의 발전을 계기로, 그동안 구상해온 세계관을 실현할 수 있는 기회를 얻게 되어 다시 제작을 시작하게 되었습니다. 이번 작품은 ‘오니(Oni)’라는 독특한 주제를 중심으로, 일본 메이지 초기 시대를 제 상상 속에서 재해석하고 시각적으로 구현한 창작 프로젝트입니다.
Production Motivation
I have been developing this project for many years, continuously planning and refining the concept. Although the early storyboard and key sequences were already completed, technical limitations at the time forced me to put the project on hold. With the recent advancements in AI video technology, I finally gained the means to bring this long-imagined world to life and resumed production.
This work is an original creation that reinterprets the early Meiji era of Japan through my own imagination, centered around the unique theme of the Oni.
시놉시스
전쟁으로 모든 것을 잃은 한 소년.쫓기듯 산속을 헤매던 그는 어둠 속에서 거대한 붉은 도리이를 발견한다.순간 스치는 여우의 귀, 그리고 동굴 속에서 장난스럽게 나타난 뿔 달린 빨간 가면의 꼬마 도깨비. 소년은 그의 손을 잡고, 끝이 보이지 않는 **기묘한 목재 가옥—‘오니료칸’**으로 들어선다.그곳은 현실과 환상이 서로 뒤섞인 세계.화려한 옷감 오니, 북을 치고 샤미센을 연주하는 악기 오니,그리고 숲을 지키는 원숭이 오니까지—이 이상한 존재들은 모두 소년을 자신들의 세계 깊숙이 인도한다. 두려움과 호기심 사이를 오가던 소년은 도깨비의 말에 마음을 열기 시작한다.“여기선… 나를 믿어.”6 그러나 연못에 빠져 도착한 목욕탕에서,소년은 거대한 돌오니와 장난스러운 작은 오니들의 소동에 휘말리고,복도로 튕겨져 나온 그를 가면 도깨비가 다시 이끈다.“옥상으로 가자. 너에게 보여주고 싶은 게 있어.” 옥상에 펼쳐진 것은 밤하늘을 가득 채우는 장대한 불꽃놀이.소년의 눈은 황홀함으로 반짝인다.하지만 그 순간, 도깨비가 손을 내밀자 소년은 연기처럼 사라지고,눈앞의 오니료칸은 순식간에 폐허로 변한다. 소년을 찾고자 폐허를 헤매던 도깨비는낡은 거울 속에서 소년의 모습을 마주한다. 그제야 진실이 드러난다.소년과 도깨비는 같은 존재.오니료칸은 소년이 과거를 되짚는 기억의 공간이었다. 동이 틀 무렵, 도깨비의 몸은 사라지고 가면만이 남는다.고요한 숲속, 풀숲 사이에서 여우 귀가 조용히 움직인다.여우가 등불을 톡 하고 건드리는 순간—폐허가 되었던 오니료칸은 다시 저녁의 빛으로 되살아난다. 그리고, 밤하늘 아래한 줄의 문장이 속삭이듯 떠오른다. “밤이 오면, 기억은 다시 문을 연다.”
Synopsis
A young boy who has lost everything to war wanders through the mountains, desperately fleeing from something unseen. In the darkness, he comes upon a towering crimson torii gate. A flicker of fox ears passes his vision—then a small horned demon child wearing a red mask playfully appears from within a cave.
The boy takes the creature’s hand and steps into Oni Ryokan, a seemingly endless wooden labyrinth where reality and fantasy blur together.
Inside, elaborately dressed fabric oni, musical oni playing drums and shamisen, and even guardian monkey oni all guide the boy deeper into their mysterious world.
Torn between fear and curiosity, the boy slowly begins to trust the masked oni.
“Here… you can trust me.”
But when he slips into a pond and emerges inside a bathhouse, chaos erupts—towering stone oni and mischievous little oni surround him. Thrown back into the corridor, he is once again led by the masked demon.
“Let’s go to the rooftop. There’s something I want to show you.”
On the rooftop, a breathtaking firework display fills the night sky, leaving the boy in awe. Yet the moment the oni reaches out his hand, the boy dissolves like smoke, and the lively ryokan instantly collapses into ruins.
Wandering the desolate remains in search of the boy, the masked oni catches sight of a reflection in an old mirror—
the boy’s face.
Only then is the truth revealed:
the boy and the oni were the same being.
Oni Ryokan was a memory-space, a place woven from the remnants of his past.
As dawn approaches, the oni’s body fades away, leaving only the mask behind. In the quiet forest, a pair of fox ears rustle gently. When the fox taps the fallen lantern—
the ruined ryokan is restored, glowing once again in the warm light of evening.
And beneath the night sky, a single line emerges like a whispered echo:
“When night falls, memory opens its doors once more.”
